Program Overview

Long-acting injectable (LAI) preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is reshaping the HIV prevention landscape by offering new opportunities to address persistent barriers related to stigma, patient preferences, and continuity of care. As new LAI PrEP options have emerged and patient awareness of these new agents expands, clinicians must be prepared to identify appropriate candidates, incorporate new clinical protocols, and implement effective workflows for delivery and follow-up. However, many providers remain uncertain about practical considerations related to dosing, laboratory monitoring, injection techniques, missed doses, and patient support and reimbursement strategies in real-world practice.

Led by HIV prevention expert David Wohl, this interactive “Top 10” CME activity is designed to provide concise, evidence-based, and clinically actionable guidance on the most important questions surrounding LAI PrEP implementation to support patient-centered clinical care.

Target Audience

This activity is designed to educate US- and EU-based primary care providers (PCPs), nurse practitioners (NPs) and physician associates (PAs), pediatricians, OB/GYNs, infectious disease specialists, HIV specialists, and sexual health clinicians who provide PrEP.

Educational Objectives

After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:

  • Describe protocols for LAI PrEP initiation, monitoring, and follow-up
  • Select LAI PrEP regimens based on patient preferences and characteristics to support continuity of care
  • Determine clinical practice strategies to streamline provision of LAI PrEP
