Target Audience

This activity is intended for primary care physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and nurses who have not yet provided preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP) or who are new to PrEP provision.

Program Overview

This enduring activity will empower primary care clinicians to offer PrEP for HIV prevention in a primary care setting. Participants will learn how to start conversations to assess a patient’s risk of acquiring HIV. In a framework of providing status-neutral care, the session will cover implementation of PrEP services, including how to select an oral or long-acting injectable regimen based on patient preferences and characteristics and the latest clinical evidence, and how to initiate, monitor, and provide follow-up care. Please join us for this engaging, practical, and informative session.

Educational Objectives

After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:

  • Conduct effective sexual health assessments to identify patients who are at risk for acquiring HIV
  • Identify guideline-directed HIV testing requirements for PrEP treatment initiation
  • Select PrEP regimens and dosing options based on clinical evidence, guidelines, and patient characteristics and preferences
  • Devise strategies to implement PrEP in the primary care setting with guideline-directed strategies for treatment initiation, monitoring, and follow-up care
