Individualized 1L Therapeutic Decision-Making in LR-MDS with Del5Q

Program Description

With multiple options now available in the LR-MDS armamentarium to treat anemia, developing an individualized strategy depends on a multitude of factors (eg, mutation status, serum erythropoietin level), which can be challenging for time-constrained hematologist/oncologists. In this Phone-a-Friend activity, Drs. Andrew Kuykendall and Aditi Shastri discuss the recently published evidence related to first-line treatment options and give their expert opinions regarding the best management approach for a patient with treatment-naïve LR-MDS with isolated 5q deletion and symptomatic anemia.

Target Audience

The educational design of this activity addresses the needs of oncologists, hematologists, hematology-oncology fellows, as well as other allied health care professionals (HCPs) involved in the treatment of myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS).

Educational Objectives

After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:

• Develop individualized treatment regimens based on patient- and disease-specific factors to reduce transfusion burden in LR-MDS and improve patient survival and quality of life outcomes
