Program Overview
Type 1 diabetes has traditionally been thought to develop in childhood, although it can occur in adults as well. It is marked by the presence of autoantibodies, which can help delineate stages of T1D. Identifying patients at earlier stages can facilitate monitoring, prepare patients for a T1D diagnosis, and determine eligibility for teplizumab, a medication to slow disease progression. Primary care physicians, pediatricians, endocrinologists, and infusion center staff all play a role in early identification and timely initiation of disease-modifying therapy. Faculty will address common questions about T1D and provide practical strategies to manage challenges encountered in clinical practice.
