Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death among patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D). Among the potential cardiovascular complications of T2DM, stroke is a particularly high risk for patients, especially given the aging population. Increasing rates of diabetes, hypertension, and obesity are also placing a larger population of younger patients at risk for stroke. Clinicians must understand the principles of switching antidiabetic therapies to reduce stroke risk as well as controlling cardiometabolic risk factors following stroke. Expert faculty discussions in this Phone-a-Friend episode will address cardiometabolic goals and how to achieve them, optimal antidiabetic therapies following stroke, and multidisciplinary care teams following stroke in patients with T2D.
The educational design of this activity addresses the needs of endocrinologists, neurologists, cardiologists, and primary care providers (PCPs), including nurse practitioners (NPs) and physician assistants (PAs), who manage patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D) at risk for stroke.
After completing this activity, participants will be better prepared to:
Tailor treatment regimens with GLP-1 receptor agonists to address hyperglycemia, additional cardiometabolic risks, and shared decision making with patients with T2D
