Program Overview

The first activity of this series, titled PBC Powerlifting: Are You Missing PBC?, is intended to strengthen your expertise in the identification and diagnosis of PBC. Dr. Nancy Reau will walk you through her approach to discussing important aspects of disease management with your patients, including how to best engage patients in their therapeutic planning and overcome barriers to successful long-term outcomes.

Target Audience

The educational design of this activity addresses the needs of gastroenterology and hepatology specialist physicians, nurse practitioners (NPs), and physician associates (PAs) who are involved in managing patients with primary biliary cholangitis (PBC), as well as a broader audience of front-line treaters who are in a position to identify patients with suspected PBC and refer them to specialist care (primary care and internal medicine physicians, NPs, PAs).

Educational Objectives

After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:

  1. Describe the pathophysiology of PBC as well as its symptom manifestations among diverse patient populations
  2. Implement appropriate assessment strategies to diagnose PBC early within the disease course
  3. Educate patients on their disease and what to expect for management, including psychosocial aspects and available treatment options
