Target Audience

This activity is designed to educate primary care, sexual health, women’s health, and infectious disease and HIV specialist physicians, nurse practitioners (NPs), and physician assistants (PAs) related to providing LAI PrEP services across critical junctures in a patient’s life.

Program Overview

Preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is an essential tool to help end the HIV epidemic. In this case-based interactive activity, you will learn practical tips for initiating sexual health discussions, and selecting and managing PrEP regimens, from initiation to monitoring and follow-up. The case follows a patient’s experience using long-acting injectable PrEP throughout many changes in lifestyle and PrEP regimen needs. Aniruddha Hazra, MD and Joshua Havens, PharmD will review clinical evidence for PrEP options, and discuss strategies and best practices for implementing long-acting injectable PrEP, placed in the context of case-based mile markers along the PrEP Journey.

Educational Objectives

After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:

  1. Identify shared decision-making strategies for selecting PrEP based on patient preferences and characteristics
  2. Implement required laboratory testing for LAI PrEP initiation and monitoring
  3. Determine clinical practice strategies to streamline provision of LAI PrEP
  4. Describe clinical considerations for managing discontinuation and restarting of LAI PrEP
