Target Audience

The educational design of this activity addresses the needs of sleep medicine, pulmonology, neurology, and psychiatry specialist physicians (MDs/DOs), nurse practitioners (NPs), and physician associates (PAs) involved in the treatment of patients with idiopathic hypersomnia.

Program Overview

Idiopathic hypersomnia is a chronic, potentially lifelong central disorder of hypersomnolence which has profound disease burdens and health consequences for patients. Furthermore, diagnosis and management have been identified among clinicians as a great challenge due to its nonspecific symptoms and poorly understood pathophysiology.  Lifting the Burdens of Idiopathic Hypersomnia: Accelerating Diagnosis and Individualizing Management is a multimedia training program consisting of 4 circuits that will boost your endurance and strengthen your expertise within the diagnosis and evolving management strategies of IH.

Educational Objectives

After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:

  • Describe the epidemiology and consequences of idiopathic hypersomnia, including cardiovascular burdens
  • Identify patients with idiopathic hypersomnia based on symptoms, sleep evaluations, and testing to rule out other disorders
  • Discuss the clinical profiles, published evidence, and prescribing considerations for pharmacotherapy in the treatment of idiopathic hypersomnia
  • Construct multimodal treatment regimens for patients with idiopathic hypersomnia based on disease presentation, comorbidities, therapeutic responses, and shared decision-making
