Target Audience
This activity is intended for infectious disease and HIV specialists engaged in the care of patients with HIV.
Program Description
Adherence to antiretroviral therapy (ART) is imperative to achieve virologic suppression in patients with HIV. Unfortunately, adherence may be difficult for certain special populations (eg, persons who inject drugs (PWID) and individuals experiencing homelessness). Although there is a long-acting injectable (LAI) cabotegravir/rilpivirine (CAB/RPV) available to treat virologically suppressed patients, Dr. Richard Elion and Dr. Monica Gandhi discuss a patient with HIV who is viremic and struggles to maintain adherence to oral ARTs and may benefit from an LAI.
Educational Objectives
After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:
- Establish clinic protocols to successfully deliver long-acting injectable ART regimens
