First Steps Toward Early Diagnosis of MCI or AD

Program Description

Early diagnosis of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is critical, as many patients with MCI due to Alzheimer’s disease (AD) will eventually progress to dementia due to AD. It is imperative that diagnosis begins with patient and caregiver interviews when memory or cognitive function changes are noticed, and progress to cognitive testing and blood work to rule out other causes. Drs Charles Vega and Sharon Cohen discuss optimal clinic protocols for initial MCI or AD diagnosis.

Target Audience

This activity is designed to address identified knowledge and practice gaps among neurology and primary care clinicians who manage patients with MCI or early AD.

1. Identify patients with MCI or AD based on cognitive assessments, biomarker imaging, clinical examination, and patient/caregiver interviews

Instructions to Receive Credit

In order to receive credit for this activity, the participant must:

2. Complete the Preactivity Questions.
3. Review the activity content.
4. Achieve a grade of at least 70% on the Postactivity Test Questions and complete the Evaluation.
