Target Audience
The educational design of this activity addresses the needs of specialists (neurologists, geriatricians, radiologists) and primary care clinicians (physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician associates/assistants) who manage patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) or mild Alzheimer’s disease (AD).
Program Overview
This enduring Patient Journey™ activity follows a patient’s real-world experience from initial presentation through treatment with amyloid-targeted therapies (ATTs). This multimodal, interactive program employs a unique educational format that mirrors the clinical and emotional journey of a patient with MCI or mild AD across 5 “Mile Markers.” Dr. Marwan Sabbagh provides interpretive insights on practical strategies for detecting cognitive impairment, confirming an AD diagnosis, educating patients and caregivers, initiating ATT, managing amyloid-related imaging abnormalities (ARIA), and transitioning to maintenance dosing. Patient vignettes are woven throughout the activity to highlight shared decision making and the importance of a patient-centered care approach.
Educational Objectives
After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:
- Incorporate a comprehensive assessment of cognition, daily function, and biomarkers to confirm an early AD diagnosis
- Educate patients and caregivers on AD progression and the risks and benefits of amyloid-targeted therapy (ATT)
- Create and continuously update a comprehensive, long-term management plan that includes ATTs, as appropriate
- Describe optimal strategies for detecting and managing amyloid-related imaging abnormalities (ARIA) in a patient receiving antiamyloid mAbs
