Target Audience
The educational design of this activity addresses identified knowledge and practice gaps among clinicians related to multi-cancer early detection (MCED) screening in primary care practice.
Program Overview
Hot Topics in Blood-Based Multi-Cancer Screening—Volume 3: Updates from ASCO 2026 is a chapter-based CME activity delivering timely, essential insights on MCED testing. The program begins with a foundational overview of MCED, including the science behind blood-based screening, limitations of current screening modalities, and considerations for integration into primary care practice. Dr. Mylynda Massart and Dr. Nima Nabavizadeh then translate data presented at the 2026 ASCO Annual Meeting, including clinical trial and real-world MCED evidence for commercially available and emerging tests and the economics of cancer screening, into practical guidance for primary care. This activity addresses key knowledge and practice gaps related to the rationale for MCED screening, test performance, emerging evidence, and patient selection.
Educational Objectives
After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:
- Recognize the limitations of organ-specific cancer screening and describe the clinical rationale for incorporating blood-based MCED testing as a complementary strategy
- Explain how methylation patterns in circulating cell-free DNA are used to detect cancer signals and identify the tissue of origin
- Discuss late-breaking and emerging evidence on blood-based MCED testing from ASCO 2026
- Develop a practical approach to MCED screening in primary care, including patient selection, result communication, and guidance on the changing reimbursement and regulatory landscape
